New year new me can mean a lot of things, from changing the way you work to trying new skills. But this is a fitness website so I think you can guess what I'm going to talk about. The new year is a great chance to start your fitness journey but some times the hard part isn't starting, it's sticking to it!
I have a few tips that might help you make those January goals life goals.
Whether you are starting with running, going to the gym or swimming at a pool make sure you work to your limitations. There is no point in completing your first run is a few months or years with a 10k and not being able to walk for the next week. With all things, if you haven't done it in a while then you probably won't be as good as you once were. Start steady and work your way up. Injuries are always a downfall for any athlete and they can be the most off-putting thing that you can face if you have just started to get back into the fitness game so start steady and build yourself up gradually.
The health and fitness industry is full of amazing discipline, sports and styles of training. If you start a new year new me the same way every year and never stick with it then you might need to change it up a bit. Maybe you always go to the gym for the first month of the year and don't have any focuses or goals then quit before the month is up, you should look at taking up a sport or try a new discipline in the gym. With so many ways to get fit your never limited to one training domain. This is your chance to start something new. If you have always wanted to try powerlifting, then do it! with so many resources on the internet, you can learn the basics of technique and training style to give any training style a try.
The internet is a great resource for the fitness industry. With so many communities and resources to look at, there are always people that will be willing to help out. Because of this, there is no reason to avoid a training style that new to you. With this, you can always ask around at local gyms to see if they have a community that you want to be a part of. CrossFit may have a few haters, but what it does have is one of the most supportive communities in the fitness industry, locally and globally. Because of this, it has grown into a well-known sector of the fitness industry and is a great community to start your fitness journey with.
Don't get me the wrong diet is important and can make a huge difference to your training and your fitness goals. But that doesn't mean you should starve yourself! I think nearly everyone loves food, I know I do. Because of this, you shouldn't make yourself suffer to achieve a fitness goal. If your goal is to lose weight then you need a calorie deficit. That's no secret. But that doesn't mean you can't have an odd treat. counting calories is a great way to make sure you maintain that calorie deficit but you can change up the way you count those calories. A lot of diets try to count calories daily but this can give you a negative view if you do treat yourself. If your friends invite you out for a meal and all you can have is a salad, that's no fun. Instead of daily calories count them weekly. That way if you know you are going out for a meal at the end of the week you can cut out little things through the week so you can still indulge a little at the weekend and not worries about going over your calorie intake.

This is a bit of a shameless plug. Saying that though, personal trainers are a great way to get an idea of what exercises you should be doing to improve. Even if you only have one or two sessions with the one you can learn a lot. You wouldn't try swimming without getting taught the strokes first and the gym is no different. It's very tempting to dive in headfirst to a new movement because Jimmy strongman on Instagram did it. But this is a prime way to get injured and injuries are the biggest blockade to your fitness goals. Seek help, find a personal trainer that knows what they are doing, find a coach that a master of there craft. Try soak up as much information as possible and the benefits will be huge.
Fitness Should be fun! It shouldn't be a chore, it shouldn't be borning. It should be something that gets you excited to finish work so that you can train and make you want to eat well to make you a better athlete. This may not come straight away but if you take your time to find a sport or discipline that excites you, work with a group of people that have the same passions and goals as you and train within your means so that you can train for as long as possible. You will get that excitement for exercise and its the best feeling that you could ever get.
New Year New Me, is a great way to get yourself back into that exercise grind but its important that you take the simple steps to make it last.
